Detox Cleanse Diet
Now that summer's in full swing, if you're anything like me, looking and feeling good is on your mind more than ever. Clothes are smaller, ourtdoorsy get-togethers are daily, and fresh food markets abound with locally produced fresh fruits and veggies. Sounds like 'tis time for a detox (especially since all those get-togethers involve boozy drinks!).
A detox, or detox cleanse diet is a popular diet touted as a way to remove toxins from your body. "It's a way to recharge, rejuvenate, and renew", says Linda Page, ND, PhD, a naturopathic doctor, lecturer, and author of the book Detoxification. "Anybody can benefit from a cleansing." There are different types of detoxes but most involve some fasting and a diet of raw fruits, vegetables, fruit, juices, water, supplements, and colon cleansing (enemas) to clean out the intestines.
There are one day cleanses, three-day, five-day, 14 day and month-long cleanses. Never having done a cleanse but having heard from numerous friends how wonderful they are (but challenging), I too wanted to try one but not one that's really stringent or super expensive. Thankfully, I found a solution, RawJuvenate Complete Organic Detox. I got my initiation to detoxing with a LivingSocial deal which brought down the cost of the $120 system to $55.

RawJuvenate Detox Ingredients
The RawJuvenate Detox System comes with five components - two powders and three capsules.
There's the Organic Super Green Drink Mix, which is a 100% raw, organic, and vegan protein powder and the other powder, Vegan Protein Powder, is a vegetable-based protein powder consisting of yellow peas, sacha inchi protein, organic hemp protein, and flaxseed. Both are meant to be added daily to your juice.
The three capsules include Vegan Probiotics that support a healthy flora balance in the gastrointestinal tract, Super Fiber that support a healthy digestive system, and Super Flora for... constipation relief.
The RawJuvenate Detox System comes the following shake recipe:
- 2 tablespoons of RawJuvenate Vegan Protein
- 1 tablespoon of RawJuvenate Organic Super Greens
- 1 cup of vanilla flavored almond milk / vanilla coconut / rice milk
- 3/4 cup of ice
- 1-2 drops Stevia (optional)
These ingredients are to be blended on a high setting for 1 minute. I tried this over the weekend for breakfast and was surprised how tasty it was, despite the unusual green color.

RawJuvenate Detox Review
To my pleasant surprise, I found the two week Raw Green Organics Detox System easy to follow.
As instructed, I replaced one solid meal with one liquid meal blended with the two Raw Green powders, which are I actually really liked as they contain ingredients such as spirulina and other greens that combine to taste pretty good. I usually did this during weekdays by blending juice bar/store-bought juice while at work. For breakfast I had coconut juice mixed with the two powders or vanilla flavored almond milk with the powders. Then after work, I had dinner, and when I'd get home I had the supplements.
How did I feel while following the Raw Organic Detox system? Great! I felt healthier, 'lighter', more energized, and more focused.
Additional positive effects of detoxing claim to restore vitality, glowing skin, loss of water weight (I wasn't doing the detox for weight loss so I didn't weight myself before and after).
One negative side-effect that I had while doing this cleanse is really bad cramps and stomach aches, which I found rather odd since I have a pretty strong stomach and hardy ever get any upset stomach. I got the crazy stomach aches every evening, a few hours after taking the pills that come with the detox so thinking the two are linked, I stopped taking them and the stomach pain went away too. I did some research and it turns out that the pills include laxatives (aloe) and another one of the pills, the fiber ones include senna and cascara sagrada, which happen to be laxatives too. No wonder I was having stomach problems!
Although I stopped taking the pills that came with the system, I love mixing the supplements with juices and creating shakes, as well as the healthy routine I developed. I'm 'juicing' and eating 4-5 times a day while at work and feel great.
