How Many Calories Is in a Fast-Food Breakfast?

Breakfast: The Most Important Meal of the Day

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but if you eat out at restaurants it can also be the most fattening. Most restaurant breakfasts, especially on fast-food restaurant menus, consist of pork products, eggs, dairy, and other foods filled with carbohydrates.

The truth is that the best way to stay on a good diet is to have a homemade, healthy breakfast. However, if you just don't have time to prepare breakfast yourself, you may have to turn to a fast-food restaurant. Take a look first at the calorie and nutritional information for these items, because many of them contain almost a full day's calorie content.

McDonalds Breakfast Menu Options

Since McDonald's is the largest fast food franchise in the world, we will look at them first.

The best breakfast I could put together from the McDonald's menu is a warm bagel or English muffin with a packet of jelly or butter, two scrambled eggs, and an order of hash browns. While it would be better to hash browns out, they do provide essential carbs that help to provide energy. If you order this breakfast, it will be enough to fill you up until your next meal and it will keep you under one-third of your daily values for total calories, fat, sodium, and carbohydrate intake. If you take out the eggs it will probably cut those values in half.

Burger King Breakfast Menu Options

Burger King is another popular fast food restaurant that has terribly high calorie breakfast items. Their breakfasts taste good, no doubt, but you would be hard pressed to find an item on their breakfast menu that doesn't include more than one third of your daily calorie values.

If I had to pick one thing to eat from Burger King's breakfast menu, I would choose the French Toast Sticks, but I would still be hungry afterwards, so I probably won't be eating breakfast there any time soon.

Wendys Breakfast Menu Options

Wendy is one of the older establishments, but it offers little in the area for healthy breakfast options. The first item on their menu is my selection of choice.

While the Grand Burrito Sandwich does pack a lot of fat, it is not necessarily a bad option. Fat is actually good if you are packing on additional carbs. Our bodies need fat to provide us with energy throughout the day.

Hardees Breakfast Menu Options

Hardees is by far my favorite breakfast restaurant, offering many different healthier choices than its competitors. The best item for dieters is the low-carb breakfast bowl, which contains minimal carbs and sugars and provides a greater balance of dietary fiber to help process the meal.
