Clinical Nutritionist Reveals Unpopular Fact About Peanut Butter

If you still love to eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich each day, we have some unfortunate news for you. It’s not the nutritional powerhouse we once believed. TikTok content creator @autumn_bates_ explains the cold hard truths about this creamy spread.

This changes everything.

She tells us that peanut butter isn't a complete protein and that it also has a low digestibility score. She explains it's so undigestible that in 2 tablespoons of peanut butter; we are only getting 3 out of 7g of usable protein. Compared to an egg, which has a high digestibility score and gives us eight full and complete grams of protein. The good news is that you don't need to stop eating peanut butter, but rather start counting it as a fat instead of a protein source. Phew. If you’d like to know more about this digestibility chart, @autumn_bates_ explains, “You can find multiple DIAAS charts from different studies on Pubmed. There’s not one comprehensive list though.” We will be giving that list a look for sure.

The audience had mixed opinions on this new information. Viewer @RyanYoder629 commented, “I’m just going to forget I saw this. Carry on!” Ha! Viewer @All-seeingeye said. “Except the fact that DIAAS Score is based on digestibility of RAW plants in PIGS.” That’s interesting to learn. Viewer @annamarck noted, “More PB slander PLZ! I am not a fan of PB and feel like people are always yelling at me to give them reasons (as if not liking it wasn’t enough), lol.” It’s a good reason for sure.

We are a little sad to have learned this truth. At least we can still eat the peanut butter, we just shouldn’t count it as a protein. We can handle that.
