1. Laugh!

That's right, laughing is a great way to burn calories and have fun at the same time. In fact, laughing for just 15 minutes a day can burn 50 calories! That is the equivalent of 5 pounds a year. The easiest ways to laugh are hanging out with friends or watching TV. If you watch an hour long show every day and laugh for half of it, you can get rid of 10 pounds a year. Laughter is certainly number one on my list as it is easy to do and a lot of fun. Plus it allows your mind to stray from food.

2. Suck in Your Stomach!

If you want to burn some calories and develop the abs you have always wanted, sucking in your stomach is the way to go. It is easy to do. While it may result in initial discomfort, sucking in your stomach does not have any harmful side-effects, and you will get used to it in no time.

3. Take a Cold Shower!

When I first heard that taking a cold shower was a good way to burn some extra calories, I did not believe it. However, after doing some research on various websites, I discovered that taking a cold shower does actually burn calories. Why? The answer is simple. Your body is constantly trying to maintain a 97 degree temperature. Therefore, it has to work extra hard to do this when you are cold. All this work results in the burning of calories and can certainly aid in your weight loss effort.

4. Skip Stairs!

This is easy and very effective. When walking up the stairs, just step on every other one, skipping the one between. This strengthens many muscles in your legs and burns calories, as well. If you walk up stairs a lot, you should definitely try this.

5. Drink a Glass of Cold Water!

Before you go walking somewhere, drink a glass of nice, cold water. Just like taking a cold shower, the cold water forces your body to warm up, burning calories all the while.

6. Shake Your Legs!

This one is a little strange, but works very well. While you are stationary (in an office chair, at home, etc.), try shaking your legs. This simple and easy exercise will have you burning hundreds of extra calories every day. In fact, if you do it every day, you will stop noticing that you are even doing it.

7. Stand on Your Tip-Toes!

While in the shower, brushing your teeth, or combing your hair, try standing on your tip-toes. This will work your calf muscles and burn calories if you do it daily.

8. Get More Sleep!

The more you sleep, the more you burn. If you have nothing to do and are feeling a little drowsy, then take a nap. When you wake up, you will feel great, and you will burn up to 50% more calories. Plus, sleeping is very good for your heart and can dramatically reduce the risk of heart disease.

9. Chew Gum!

Go buy some sugar-free gum and begin chewing. This will burn about 10 calories an hour and will strengthen your jaw. Plus, it will leave your breath smelling minty-fresh!

10. Drink Green Tea!

While I have never tried it, drinking green tea supposedly increases your metabolism, meaning you will burn a lot more calories every day.

If you just follow these ten simple steps, they will become habits. You won't even realize that you are doing it, and you will be burning hundreds of calories every day. In fact, you could potentially burn more than 30 pounds a year!

      Please do not "shake" your legs at work unless you have your own office/others cannot see you. I cannot stand it when others twitch or bounce their legs up and down next to me. There is no way the calories burned by this annoying practice will outweigh the anguish you cause your fellow co-workers.

      If anyone is curious on how to do the cold shower, it's plain simple. Have you ever visited the beach or pool, noticed that once you step in, the water is too cold for you? Once you've been there for awhile, the water seems to start to get hot. That's because your body is warming you up to keep it at a healthy temperature.

      When you're in the shower, first, make sure the water is warm! Not too hot or too cold. Begin to turn the water cold. Make sure at least 5-10 minutes have passed to turn the knob to make the water cold. You'll notice you have gotten use to the cold water, and that is a sign that's working. :) Hope it helps for anyone.

      The green tea is true. I've been drinking it for nearly two months and my metabolism has gone up, and my weight has dropped a few pounds. (With exercise, of course.) Also eating ice does fill you up. But be careful. Too much will mess up your teeth. Trust me I know. :)

      If you eat ice cubes then your brain thinks that you are actually eating so it will think your full. Also, your body burns calories trying to make its self warm again and you are burning more than you actually take in! I do this all the time and on average, the brain takes 20 minutes to decide weather it is full or not.

      This sounds very helpfully :) I take green tea pills sit up straight and even try to sleep with my stomach in!! I sometimes skip a meal and drink lots of water instead .. Seems to be helping :)) I want to try the cold shower.. For some reason I thought hot showers burn more calaries because ur body. Would try to be cooling down

      All great ideas! I'd be careful and maybe edit #7 though - tip-toeing in the shower sounds like something someone would try, and potentially fall and hurt themselves doing!

      Another way don't eat at all puke a lot sleep constantly when you get up take a lot of laxatives... Lol =P

      There is not a more efective way to loose calories than working out and eating less, don't believe don't believe this tips lol for you to loose calories the only way is to burn each day more calories than what you eat daily, :EXAMPLE if you eat 900 calories a day and you burn 1000 calories a dat yiur in the right track to loose weight in one mont you will see results 100%guarantees. :)

      Thanks! I have a back injury that makes it difficult to do much of anything but lay in bed. Which means I have put on weight. I asked my doc what I could do to lose weight, he said eat less, but I don't even eat 2,000 calories a day. So I'm trying to come up with ways to burn more calories with out hurting my back.

      THANK YOU Exactly what i was looking for !!!!!!! :D i remember i used to suck in my belly all the time , now that i have stopped , i have i bit of a pooch now! OH AND ANOTHER THING - When i cant sleep , i just lay in bed and start belly dancing , or moving my hips like when im laying down . easy fun and not a lot of work i love that .

      You can also take hot long showers, your body tries to maintain a body temp so going hot or cold either way burns calories!

      Sitting up straight burns 10% more calories than slouching, plus strengthens core and back muscles.

      Young Photographer: Dancing is a good one. The only reason I didn't put it on my list is because it requires more effort than some people are willing to put into burning calories.

      1st thing when I wake up, I suck in my gut and try to touch my belly button to my spine while simultaneously (I hope I spelled that right) breathing out all my air. Hold this for about 15-25 seconds, rest for 10 seconds, and repeat at least 2 more times. This will help tone up your abs as well. :)
