'Tis the season for health and fitness resolutions. There is an inspiring and motivational energy in the air as we get ready to ring in the new year. With it, of course, comes a massive crowd of people ready to get fit. This is the year.
It's easy to get caught up in the hype. We are bombarded with advertisements on TV, the radio, and social media. Everyone has a life-changing program or amazing, money-saving deal to help us reach our fitness goals.
Before you spend a ton of money on programs, gym memberships that you'll end up not using, and cute fitness apparel, pause and take a breath. The truth is that most people stop and give up on their health and fitness resolutions by March. That infectious energy of the new year ends up fizzling out and people gravitate back to their old habits. That's a lot of money down the drain.
This year, why not try something different? The key to achieving any health and fitness goal is consistency. You have to show up every day and put in the work. It takes time, effort, and dedication. Instead of jumping in, spending a ton of money, and trying to change your entire lifestyle all at once, start with a fitness challenge to help you change your habits. There are many challenges floating around on the internet and with a little creativity you can even create your own. Below I've shared my three favorite fitness challenges for the new year. These are doable, perfect for any level of fitness, and either free or incredibly inexpensive. Best of all, they allow you to create a daily habit of mindful movement to help increase your chances of fitness success this new year. Let's get ready to have our fittest year ever!
30 Days of Yoga with Adriene
If you are curious about yoga, looking to get back into it, or just want to try something new, this is the challenge for you. Every January, Adriene hosts 30 days of yoga and this is something I look forward to all year. About four or five years ago, I came across one of Adriene's yoga videos and I was instantly hooked. She sparked a curiosity within me, helped me rediscover my love of yoga, and inspired the confidence to branch out on my own. Adriene makes yoga accessible to everyone, encouraging you to play around with the postures, and giving you the freedom to explore the stretches in your own body on your mat. She's funny, kind, and relatable, someone you will definitely want to spend your time with. Over the course of 30 days, you will cultivate your own, at-home yoga practice, making it work for you and your schedule. Building this foundation will help you create consistency and help you achieve your fitness goals. Best of all? This challenge is completely free. Just visit her website and sign up. Love Your Body - Tone It Up
If you are just starting your fitness journey, want to tone up, lose weight, or are just looking for something different, this challenge is for you. Tone It Up was founded by best friends, Karena and Katrina. They've been around for awhile, starting out with just the two of them and a camera, filming themselves working out on the beach. They've evolved their brand over the past two years, including more trainers and giving their members access to new and interesting workouts. A lot has changed, but their core values remain the same: building a community of women who support and encourage one another. Working out with Kat and Karena is like working out with your best girlfriends and the new trainers are just as amazing. The Love Your Body challenge is their annual new year fitness challenge, designed to help you tone up, create a daily habit of working out, and most important of all, to love your body. This is the perfect challenge to start the new year!
This challenge is mostly free. Simply sign up on their website. If you want to follow along, you'll need to download their app, which is free in the Play Store. You can choose to do the free daily moves and choose a free workout of theirs found on YouTube, or you can pay the membership fee to access all the fitness classes right on the app. In addition, you have the option of purchasing their nutrition program and a variety of supplements, beauty items, fitness apparel, and fitness equipment. You can make this challenge work for you no matter your fitness level or budget.

100 Days of TAM
This last fitness challenge is something completely different and a true testament that with a little creativity and dedication, you can create your own challenge. A few years ago, a friend of mine was looking to get back on track with the Tracy Anderson Method. In order to create a little accountability for herself, she decided to do a Tracy Anderson workout each day for 100 consecutive days. She named this 100 days of TAM. It really took off and inspired so many women to do the same.
Tracy Anderson is most famous for being a celebrity trainer and Gwyneth Paltrow's best friend. She has created an amazing, unique workout method that helps transform women's bodies. I first discovered her method several years ago when I was looking to get ready for my wedding. I started out with her Metamorphosis program and moved on to Continuity. Her program worked, helping me slim down and tone up. I looked amazing in my wedding dress! Since then, I have tried almost all of her DVD's and I even joined her streaming service. Above all other exercises, Tracy's Method helps me keep a long, lean, feminine look. If you are looking for something different, something that really works, Tracy Anderson is for you.
If you are a beginner, I recommend checking out her Beginner DVD's. These are a great introduction into Tracy's Method and she walks you through the movements. If you are no stranger to working out, you might want to try 30 Day Method, a book and DVD combo, Tracy Anderson Mat Workout, her original mat workout DVD, or The Perfect Design Series, a three-DVD progressive workout set. Most of these you can find at the library for free. You can also purchase them at the store or online. These are the least expensive and will give you a good idea if this method is right for you.
The challenge portion comes in by committing to do a Tracy Anderson workout every day for 100 days. You can take rest days if needed. Maybe start out doing one of her workouts four or five days a week, working your body up to being able to do a workout six days a week. Eventually, you'll find that you will want to do the movements everyday. You can join the Facebook group or get a group of friends together if you need accountability to stick with it. Out of all the fitness programs and exercises I do, The Tracy Anderson Method is my favorite.

Your suggestions are excellent, but I am limited as to what I can physically do. I have been to physical therapy and have some specific exercises I can accomplish.
i think your plans are excellent for those that are younger and don't have my specific health problems. I use to excercise regularly and would try many different things, but those days are gone for me.
